East Austin College Prep curriculum and extracurricular activities:
o Work with core teachers to embed physical activity into academic programming.
o School lunch hour education – teach the students every day about what they put on their plate and in their bodies with “Food Referee” Sheldon Williams of Better Bodies.
o Integrating the CATCH and SPARK curriculum
o Healthy Testing Ad Campaign with brain food and activities around testing.
o Sports Leagues and Clubs, including: Basketball, Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Cheerleading, Step Team, Martial Arts
o Extracurricular Activities (includes sports as well as outdoor club, drama, gardening, music)
o Youth Advisory Board Healthy Living Projects - Youth investigating and introducing healthy living habits to their peers and community
o Student data collection and pedometers
o Weekend sports clinics led by EAPrep’s Superintendent Dr. Joe Gonzales who organizes and teaches fundamental skills in the areas of football, basketball, and weight training to ages pre-K – high school.
