Southwest Key has devoted more than fifteen years to build a brand of academic excellence. In 1996 we began working with local county agencies throughout Texas to provide educational services through the provision and operation of the Cameron County (San Benito, Texas) and Travis County (Austin, Texas) Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs. As a result of the success we experienced through the operation of these schools, coupled with our optimal service delivery, Southwest Key was awarded a contract to operate a third alternative education school in Hidalgo County (Weslaco, Texas) in 1999 and a fourth school in Bexar County (San Antonio, Texas) in 2007. In that time, Southwest Key has served thousands of students throughout Texas, assisting at-risk and low-achieving students in the development of their academic skills.
Each Southwest Key alternative education school provides youth with a consistent, structured approach to learning that emphasizes positive behavior and personal accountability. These programs are uniquely designed to re-engage students in education and academic learning. The Southwest Key model also incorporates new and innovative teaching methods that sustain the interests of youth and compel students to learn. In fact, in 2006 the Texas Association for Alternative Education recognized the Travis County school at its annual state conference for ‘Best Practices in Texas Alternative Schools’. By providing students with the precise combination of educational curriculum and supports, students leave our schools with the tools and knowledge needed to build better futures for themselves. As a testimony to the excellent academic and social services we provide, many of the youth we serve successfully reintegrate back into their home campuses upon program completion.
Our commitment to excellence and ability to deliver results has enabled us to play an instrumental role in the success of the East Austin College Prep Academy charter middle school, which opened in 2009. With Southwest Key’s decades of experience in high quality service delivery and program management backing this initiative, the East Austin College Prep Academy is already well underway to developing an education brand synonymous with excellence.
