Southwest Key is a recognized leader in the design and implementation of innovative, community-based youth justice programs for federal, state and local agencies. We are dedicated to keeping young youth out of institutions and empowering them with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to succeed.
Youth Justice Philosophy
Southwest Key programs are centered on the idea that children flourish when they are able to remain with their families and within the communities. We are committed to the development of community-based alternatives that reduce the reliance on residential services for children and families. Our unique combination of family-centered and strength-based services guide system-involved youth and their families toward positive and productive lives.
A Fraction of the Cost
Southwest Key's programs are designed to serve youth ages 10-19. The cost is $80-90 per day, per youth depending upon the number of youth and their length of stay, just a fraction of the cost of detention or incarceration.
Program Models
Southwest Key has developed and refined several program models across the US that span the entire continuum of care. Our programs range from youth needing interventions before entering the juvenile justice system, to increasing levels of restriction for youth requiring such services. Our models include:
A new report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation finds that while juvenile incarceration costs states an average of $88,000 per youth annually, it has not paid off from a public safety, rehabilitation, or cost perspective
