A Social Change Model: Leadership By the People!
Funded by a grant from JP Morgan Chase
Southwest Key recognizes the increasing need for residents of East Austin to take leadership roles within our community. The East Austin Leadership Development Program (EALDP) is part of Southwest Key's East Austin Children's Promise initiative. Its purpose is to develop, coordinate and promote a variety of projects to engage residents of East Austin, and those concerned about East Austin in identifying critical issues and advocacy efforts in order to increase the political power, wealth and capacity of the community.
The EALDP aims to develop a resident-driven initiative to encourage a new wave of neighborhood leaders by providing information about the critical issues facing East Austin and teaching valuable leadership skills. The ELDP is geared to emerging leaders in our community and aims to strengthen the network of concerned citizens interested in improving the quality of life for East Austin's residents.
Participants attend multiple sessions where they learn skills, hear from established community leaders and participate in projects that put the learning into action.
