BB&T Funds College Savings Program For East Austin College Prep
This month, Southwest Key Programs and BB&T launched East Austin College Prep Dollars for Scholars, a college savings account program for EAPrep students that coincides with the school's financial literacy curriculum. BB&T awarded Southwest Key Programs $30,000 to launch the program and presented EAPrep students and administrators with a giant check at a party held on May 18th. The Dollars for Scholars program will provide the opportunity for eligible EAPrep families to open a savings account for their student beginning fall of 2017. The funds from BB&T will provide incentive money to help students develop good habits around their finances.
"It’s tied to enhancing the child’s success in meeting the requirements in the state standardized testing and also making college seem accessible," said Mark Nerio, Community Development with BB&T.
Dollars for Scholars is a three-year program open to EAPrep students enrolled in the 4th-8th grades in the fall 2017 semester.
