In June 2014, Mera Champion, Regional Director of Workforce Development Childcare Program hosted an Employee Appreciation luncheon for her Childcare staff at the Holiday Inn in Brownsville, Texas. The Workforce Development Childcare Program provides childcare services for the families in Cameron County.
The staff at Workforce Development Childcare is a small team of 22 members and most staff have been with the program for 15 years or more. “We are definitely a familia. I call them my hijos and hijas (sons and daughters),” says Champion. “We have been through good and bad times but we always stick together.”
The luncheon was to honor the staff through Southwest Key’s Wellness program and to spend more time together outside of work to create a stronger bond. “We do this type of work because we love the mission of Southwest Key and helping families in the communities to reach their goals. By providing childcare for the parents, they are able to go back to school or work and this betters the community here,” says Champion. Check out more photos here.
