On September 10, 2013, Dr. Juan Sanchez, CEO of Southwest Key Programs and Dr. Joe Gonzales, Superintendent of East Austin College Prep, received a check for over $10,000 for East Austin Children’s Promise raised through the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s Caring Cup Wristband Initiative.
The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf began the wristband initiative because of their commitment to community and social responsibility. Customers are able to purchase a wristband in-store for a minimum donation of $1 and receive 10% off their prepared drinks for the entire length of the promotion. The initiative gives customers the chance to feel even better about their purchases while learning about a good cause in their town.
East Austin Children’s Promise is a Southwest Key initiative that provides wraparound services with a holistic approach that targets education and employment throughout the lifespan. East Austin College Prep is a free, public charter school created through East Austin Children’s Promise.
CB&TL picks only one local non-profit with whom to partner each quarter, making their choice to work with East Austin Children’s Promise a special honor.
“The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf attempts to work with non profit organizations that look, not just to address needs, but to find the root causes of community issues and attempt to produce resolutions starting at those roots,” says CB&TL COO Bill Duffy. “East Austin Children’s Promise does just that. They are introducing fundamental building blocks of self-empowerment and self-responsibility, while providing a window for our youth to peer through and build success for themselves and those around them.”
The Children’s Promise wristband initiative ran from August 9 -31 at all Austin-area stores and raised $10, 169. CB&TL will promote Children’s Promise again each year for three years.
