Since 1987, Southwest Key has recruited, hired, and trained diverse staff with tremendous depth in skills, qualifications and experience. Southwest Key's 65 programs are staffed by hundreds of youth care workers, masters-level social workers, teachers, drivers, cooks, case aides, clinicians and more. We have a workforce of over 2,000 employees in 6 states. Each program is supervised by a Program Director (PD) located on-site in field offices. One Regional Executive Director (RED) is appointed to oversee a set of programs of a particular geographic area. One Chief Program Officer is responsible for oversight of all REDs, PDs and programs in their area of service.
Southwest Key is an extremely lean and efficient organization. Our national headquarters, located in Austin, Texas, houses a small and talented team of 90 administrative and operational staff, including accountants, human resources and payroll professionals, executive managers and directors, and administrative and IT technicians. This administrative team supports over 1,900 direct care staff in the field.
From his start in South Texas, Dr. Sánchez recognized that, while most clients were poor kids of color, very few professionals were people of color. Dr. Sánchez inspires others to become leaders and has built a minority-led organization known for its cultural competency. We believe effective services must be culturally relevant and delivered by persons knowledgeable of cultural, language, and ethnic differences.
The cornerstone of all of the programs at Southwest Key is cultural relevance. Through the many programs we operate across the United States, Latino and African-American youth and young people from poor families make up the vast majority of our client population. As such, we have placed a significant emphasis on the importance of our staff reflecting the population we serve.
